An inspirational Islamic book that will leave you feeling revived and hopeful that truly, with difficulty always comes ease.

On Friday, August 16, 2013, twenty-six-year-old Amr Kassem attended a peaceful protest in Alexandria, Egypt along with thousands of others, rallying against the mass injustices taking place in the aftermath of the coup d’etat by the Egyptian military under the command of Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. As Kassem returned home to his family, an Egyptian army sniper shot and killed him, leaving a woman widowed and a child fatherless.

A Temporary Gift is a record of journal entries written by Kassem’s widow, Asmaa Hussein, during the two years following his departure from this world.

This book is about re-learning how to live in the face of immense trauma. It is a reminder that beyond the pain and darkness of loss there is still the potential of light in patience and constancy.

300 Pages, softcover.

Finally purchased after many years of following Asmaa

Finally purchased after many years of following Asmaa, and I am absolutely in awe of this work. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that I ended up reading it in Ramadan 1447, constantly saying Ameen after every duaa’ she makes for Amr. It really illuminated places of my heart and connected me with concepts like gratitude and peace even amidst the most difficult tests. We all have temporary gifts that are given and taken, and this book offers a model on how to have Adab with Allah swt, Al-Wahhab. May Allah bless you and your family and reunite you with Amr in the highest heaven.

A thought provoking book

An insightful book with an in-depth understanding of the journey of losing a loved one and coping up with the tragedy. Reading this book made me have a broader perspective of reality of life that we may at times wish to hide away from or neglect in most cases.
Understanding and accepting the divine decree of Allaah when calamities are befallen is something that people usually find very difficult to cope up with and move on.
This book contains loads of wisdom and lessons to learn from the life of Asmaa Hussain, and how she faced the tragedy and her healing and seeing the sun rise again. It was beautiful that her daughter, Ruqayah, was a main part of her life that made her want to move on and grow for her, and it was a big motivation for her to be a strong women for her daughter.

What amazed me was that she took the demise of her beloved husband as a mercy in disguise from Allaah, and that she hopes for the reward of the hardship she faced in this world and constantly makes dua for him and ease for him during the day of recompense.
